Perhaps the only goal of this company is to highlight the incredible unique culture surrounding the sport of fly flyfishing in the southeast. Like everyone else we love fish, but it’s the people that make it special. This film hopes to highlight the emotions and moments spent fishing a full season in Appalachia in true Protofly style.

INDEPENeNT PROJECT

AN EXCERSISE IN RAPID PROTOTYPING: DESIGNING A 3D PRINTED CLICK AND PAWL FLY REEL, THAT WAS TRULY FUNCTIONAL.

This self led project was born in the wake of Hurricane Helene in Western Appalachia, driven by a momentary pause in other projects and the imposed 7:30 curfew.

With a new 3D printer at my disposal and a goal of designing the most functional items out of curiosity, this project began.

This was a fantastic exercise in taking an appearance prototype into a truly functioning mechanism that not achieved its intended function, but served it well.

The tolerance and strength studies over dozens of iterations panned out into a fantastic result.

CANOE SEAT

A technical canoe chair constructed from multiple panels of waterproof nylon canvas backed with PVC.

Multiple split sections of the fabric upper allow it to flex with the user’s motions in the boat as well as fold when the seat is not in use.

Between the separated sections of the upper and the larger divided space separating the back and seat of the chair is a heavily reinforced elastic that allows the chair to both recline statically and also rebound a users momentum in a dynamic way if heavy paddling is occurring.
